Found a signal provider with 70% win rate, nice equity curve. Started copying.
Then he hit 4 losing trades in a row. Each loss was 3–4% of his account.
His account is large. Mine is smaller. The same percentage loss hurt me way more.
What I didn't check: his average risk per trade.
He was a heavy risk taker. I'm not. We were incompatible.
Now before copying anyone, I look at just two things:
- Avg risk % per losing trade
- Max consecutive losses
And I only use platforms that let me cap my own risk separately (e.g., max daily loss, or fixed lot multiplier).
Has copy trading ever burned you because of mismatched risk?
