United States (US) Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick hit newswires late on Monday, skirting direct questions about a US-Canada trade deal outside of the Trump administration's own NAFTA re-negotiation, the USMCA.

During an interview with Fox Business, Commerce Secretary Lutnick reiterated recent talking points from the White House, declaring that "trade deals" will be coming, but avoiding directly stating who those trade deals might be with, or revealing any clear details about claimed trade negotiations.

Key highlights

It is time for other countries to open their markets to the US.

We will get some trade deals pretty soon.

The first trade deal got to be with a top 10 economy.

Trade with Canada is really complex.

I don't see how a Trump-Carney meeting works out perfectly.

For now, the USMCA pact is okay.

When asked if a deal with Canada is possible: It is very complex.
