Hang Seng Index opens higher with 71-point gain

7th August 2025 - (Hong Kong) The Hang Seng Index opened with a rise of 71 points, or 0.29%, reaching 24,982 points this morning. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index also saw an increase, up 21 points or 0.24%, to 8,954 points, while the Tech Index gained 14 points, or 0.27%, settling at 5,546 points.
Apple-related stocks continued to perform well, with AAC Technologies rising by 2%. Sunny Optical, on the other hand, experienced a slight drop of 2%, while Cowell e Holdings Inc. surged by 5.7%, and TSMC saw an increase of 1.4%. BYD Electronics opened flat.
In the technology sector, Alibaba saw a notable rise of 2.06%. Kuaishou increased by 1.38%, Meituan was up 0.58%, and Tencent gained 0.44%. However, Xiaomi opened lower, down 3.4%, leading the declines in this sector.
Meanwhile, financial stocks provided some support, with HSBC Holdings up by 0.41% and AIA Insurance also rising by 0.41%. Conversely, China Ping An fell by 0.74%, and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing remained unchanged.
Cathay Pacific continued to face pressure, slipping by 0.09%.
