Hang Seng Index fall below 25,000 mark again as SMIC plunges over 3%

8th August 2025 - (Hong Kong) In another session, Hong Kong stocks have once again slipped below the 25,000 mark. The Hang Seng Index opened lower by 113 points or 0.45%, standing at 24,968 points; the H-share index dropped by 49 points or 0.55%, reaching 8,932 points; and the technology index declined by 45 points or 0.83%, settling at 5,500 points.
SMIC International reported a nearly 20% decrease in profits for the second quarter, leading to a 3.7% drop in its opening.
Financial stocks are on a downward trend with AIA Group falling by 0.74%; HSBC Holdings dropping by 0.46%; Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited declining by 0.37%; and China Ping An remaining unchanged.
The technology sector is showing weakness, with Xiaomi down by 0.87%; Alibaba declining by 0.5%; Meituan falling by 0.82%; Kuaishou dropping by 0.26%; and Tencent remaining unchanged.
