(MT Newswires) -- Hong Kong equities closed modestly lower on Thursday as investors turned cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve's annual Jackson Hole symposium.
The Hang Seng Index marginally fell 61.33 points, or 0.2%, to 25,104.61, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index edged down 38.50 points, or 0.4%, to 8,974.77.
Investors are awaiting Fed Chair Jerome Powell's keynote speech on Friday for signals on a potential September rate cut, with markets already pricing in a quarter-point reduction.
Central bankers from around the world are set to gather for the symposium, which kicks off later today.
In corporate news, earnings remained in focus.
AIA Group closed nearly 1% lower after reporting a decline in first-half profit.
Meanwhile, The Bank of East Asiaadvanced 7% after reporting higher first-half profit.
