(MT Newswires) -- Chinese shares closed mixed on Tuesday after President Donald Trump warned of more tariffs should China refuse to export magnets to the US.
The Shanghai Composite Index, the main gauge of Chinese stocks, slid 0.4% or by 15.18 points to 3,868.38. The Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.3% or by 32.11 points to 12,473.17.
Trump's statement comes after China released export regulations for rare earths on Friday.
China added rare earth items and magnets to its export control list in April amid a tariff tit-for-tat with the US, according to a Reuters report Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Beijing's international trade representative Li Chenggang is set to fly to Washington this week to speak with US officials amid a tariff truce between the two powers, Reuters reported separately.
In corporate news, Baosteelclosed 7% lower despite its first-half profit rising 40% year over year to 151.3 million yuan in the first half.
