29th August 2025 - (Hong Kong) The Hang Seng Index (HSI) started the day up by 96 points, or 0.38%, at 25,095. The China Enterprises Index rose 41 points, or 0.46%, to 8,958, while the Technology Index climbed 45 points, or 0.8%, to 5,689.
Technology stocks performed strongly overall. Tencent edged up 0.2%, Alibaba gained 0.8% ahead of its earnings report, Meituan rose 0.6%, JD.com surged 1.6%, and Kuaishou advanced 2%. However, Xiaomi Group dipped slightly by 0.3%.
Financial stocks showed mixed results. HSBC Holdings fell 0.3%, Ping An Insurance dropped 0.3%, while AIA Group gained 0.3% and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange rose 0.7%. Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation ( SMIC ) saw a post-earnings decline of 0.1%, while Trip.com Group continued its upward momentum with a 5.1% gain.
