Financials, consumer stocks lead India`s equity benchmarks higher after tax cuts

(Reuters) - India's Nifty 50and Sensexup 0.4% and 0.5%, respectively
** Financials, auto, and consumer stockslead gains as government slashes consumption taxes to revive local demand, cushion the blow from steep U.S. tariffs
** Goods and Services Tax (GST) council approves two-tier structure, lowers taxes on everyday items
** NIFTYFIN up 0.8%, biggest contributors to benchmark indexes
** NIFTYAUTO gains 1.6%, while NIFTYFMCG rises 0.7%
** "While the direct beneficiaries include consumer, autos, cement, healthcare and insurance sectors, the second order beneficiaries in terms of growth will be retail banks and NBFC s," says Rahul Singh, chief investment officer - equities at Tata Asset Management
** IT indexdown 0.6%, set for third session of losses
** Broader mid-capsand small-capsdown 0.1% and 0.2%, respectively, after rising about 3% in last three sessions
