Italian Retail Sales Unexpectedly Stall

Retail sales turnover in Italy was unchanged from the previous month in July of 2025, holding the upwardly revised 0.7% jump in June, but missing expectations that they would have rise by 0.4%. Retail turnover was supported by a 0.3% expansion for non-food goods, extending the 0.1% increase from the previous month to record a fourth straight period of growth. This was offset by a 0.4% drop in food goods turnover, trimming the 1.5% jump in the previous month. In seasonally adjusted volume terms, Italian retail sales eased by 0.2%, solely due to lower food sales. From the previous year, retail sales expanded by 1.8%.
