Motorbike sales in Indonesia rose 0.7% year-on-year to 578,041 units in August 2025, rebounding from a 2.0% decline in July. This marked the first annual increase in four months, following a 100 bps interest rate cut by the central bank since January. Despite the modest recovery in August, motorbike sales for the first eight months of 2025 were down 1.7% compared to the same period in 2024. On a month-on-month basis, however, sales fell 1.5% in August, sharply reversing from a 15.3% surge in July. In 2024, annual motorbike sales grew 1.5%, reaching 6.3 million units, within the forecast range of 6.2 to 6.5 million units set by the Association of Indonesian Motorcycle Industry (AISI). For 2025, AISI targets sales between 6.4 and 6.7 million units. However, the association noted last month that it may consider revising its annual forecast if sales pressures persist in the coming months.
