China's vehicle sales increased 16.4% year-on-year to 2.857 million units in August 2025, following a 14.7% growth in July, according to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). Sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) jumped 26.8% year-on-year to 1.395 million units in August, marking the sixth consecutive monthly increase. In the first eight months of 2025, total vehicle sales rose 12.6%, while NEV sales soared 36.7%. Earlier, CAAM had forecast full-year vehicle sales to grow 4.7% to 32.9 million units, with new energy vehicle (NEV) sales expected to surge 24.4% to 16 million units. In 2024, total vehicle sales grew 4.5% to 31.436 million units, marking a sharp slowdown from the 12% gain recorded in 2023.
