Thailand Consumer Confidence Falls to Lowest Since 2022

The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce’s consumer confidence index dropped to 50.1 in August 2025 from 51.7 in July. This marked the seventh straight month of decline and the lowest level since December 2022, amid concerns over a slow economic recovery, political instability, and US tariffs. Thailand’s state planning agency projects the country’s economy to expand by 1.8%-2.3% this year, compared to the 2.5% growth in 2024. Meanwhile, the US has lowered its tariff on imported goods from Thailand to 19% from 36%, though uncertainties remain over tariffs on transshipments through Thailand from third countries. University President Thanavath Phonvichai said that sentiment could improve under Thailand's new government, adding that the administration’s ability to deliver outstanding and tangible results would be crucial to reversing the decline in confidence.
