New York, Sept 19, 2025 (AFP)
Wall Street stocks edged higher early Friday, adding to records as markets monitored talks between President Donald Trump and China's leader Xi Jinping.
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV and the Xinhua news agency said the call, which is expected to focus on trade and a ownership of video platform TikTok, was underway.
The second call between the two leaders since Trump's return to office "might be a reason why we are drifting a bit higher," said Steve Sosnick of Interactive Brokers.
About 15 minutes into trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up less than 0.1 percent at 46,159.13.
The broad-based S&P 500 advanced 0.2 percent to 6,642.62, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index gained 0.3 percent to 22,543.70.
All three indices finished at records on Thursday as markets digested the first Federal Reserve interest rate cut of 2025 announced the prior day.
Among individual companies, FedEx climbed 1.7 percent after reporting higher quarterly profits as pointed to strength in its US business and a lift from cost cuts.
