US stocks mixed ahead of Powell address

Wall Street stocks were mixed early Tuesday as markets awaited a speech from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell that could offer clues on the direction of monetary policy.
Powell, who oversaw last week's first interest rate cut of 2025, is due to speak about the economic outlook later Tuesday in Rhode Island. The Fed has said it could cut interest rates again in 2025, depending on economic data.
Major indices finished at records on Monday, led by strength in Nvidia and Apple.
About 10 minutes into trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.4 percent at 46,546.01.
The broad-based S&P 500 was up less than 0.1 percent at 6,696.21, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index dipped 0.2 percent to 22,740.48.
The Fed's interest rate cut reflected increased attention to worries about the employment market as compared with inflation following recent weaker jobs data.
Among individual companies, Boeing rose 2.2 percent after announcing that Uzbekistan Airways ordered up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes, the largest order in the carrier's history.
