Swedish Household Lending Growth Hits 2½-Year High

The annual growth rate of lending to Swedish households edged up to 2.7% in August 2025, from 2.6% in the previous month, marking the highest level since February 2023. Housing loans—which make up 83% of total household lending—increased by 2.4% year-on-year, unchanged from the previous month. Moreover, consumption loans, which account for 6% of household lending, grew at an annual rate of 4.8%, slightly up from 4.6% in July. Lending to non-financial corporations also continued to rise, with the annual growth rate ticking up to 2.8%, from 2.7% in the previous month—remaining in positive territory for the sixth consecutive month. Meanwhile, the average interest rate on new mortgage agreements stood at 2.84% in August, with the average floating rate slightly higher at 2.86%.
