Uruguay’s unemployment rate fell to 7.0% in August 2025, down from 8.4% a year earlier. Joblessness stood at 7.1% in Montevideo and at 7.0% outside the capital. Among men, unemployment was 5.9%, compared with 8.3% for women. By age, the highest rate was among those aged 14–24 (23.2%), while it was lowest for those 65 and older (2.8%). Regarding the employed population, 9.7% were underemployed, and 22.3% lacked social security registration in their main job. The national activity rate was 64.4%, while the employment rate stood at 59.8%.
