East Timor Inflation Rate Hits 5-Month High

The annual inflation rate in East Timor edged up to 0.6% in August 2025 from 0.3% in the previous month. This marked the highest reading since March, as prices increased at a faster pace for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.6% vs 1.1% in July) and for furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (1% vs 0.8%). In addition, prices remained stable for housing (0.4%), transport (-1%), health (0%), communication (-1.1%), recreation and culture (0.4%), and education (0.4%). Meanwhile, costs moderated for clothing and footwear (0.4% vs 0.5%), while deflation slightly deepened for alcohol and tobacco (-3.3% vs -3.2%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices stood at 0.2% in August, unchanged from the previous month.
