Chile Industrial Output Contracts

The industrial production index in Chile fell by 1.9% from the previous year in August of 2025, erasing the 1% increase from the previous month to mark the first contraction since February. The drop was owed to a slide in the annual production of minerals (-6.3%), largely due to a plunge in the output of copper, adding to global supply pressures. In turn, utility generation fell by 0.6% annually. Conversely, manufacturing output expanded by 1.8%, loosely in line with the market consensus of a 1.9% expansion but slowing from the 2.7% increase in the previous month. From the previous month, aggregate industrial output was 0.1% higher on a seasonally adjusted basis.
