At the same time, the employment index rose (47.3 vs 42.8), marking a sharp improvement after two months of decline. Meanwhile, inventory levels of purchased goods edged lower (48.2 vs 48.8), indicating higher demand and supporting the total index. Supplier delivery times shortened (49.1 vs 52.3), typically reflecting softer activity. The input price index decreased (59.6 vs 61.4), though still pointed to continued rising prices.
