Wall Street stocks powered to fresh records Wednesday, shrugging off the start of a government shutdown amid hopes for additional Federal Reserve interest rate cuts.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.1 percent to 46,441.10 to finish at a second consecutive record.
The broad-based S&P 500 rose 0.3 percent to 6,711.20, also a record, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index gained 0.4 percent to 22,755.16.
