The unemployment rate in Italy edged up to 6.0% in August 2025 from 5.9% in July, which had marked the lowest level since a record low in April 2007. Despite the uptick, the data reinforced the trend of a historically tight labor market in Italy, diverging slightly from major economies in the Eurozone. The number of unemployed individuals rose by 0.4% to 1.531 million, the lowest since October 2007. Meanwhile, total employment fell by 0.2% to 24.17 million. The labor force also decreased by 0.2% to 25.701 million, though it remained well above its long-term average.
