Consumer prices in Fiji dropped by 3.8% year-on-year in September 2025, following a 3.5% decline in the previous month, marking the eighth consecutive month of deflation. The data uses a new base year of 2019, replacing the previous base year of 2011. This was also the steepest annual drop since at least January 2023, with food prices falling the most since records began in 2023 (-8.2% vs -7.6% in August). Transport costs also dropped at the fastest pace in ten months (-8.1% vs -7.9%). Additional downward pressure came from housing (-2.2% vs -2.3%), clothing and footwear (-4.1% vs -4.5%), and recreation and culture (-1.2% vs -1.7%). In contrast, upward price pressures were observed in furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance (1.0% vs. 1.3%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.0% vs 3.1%), education (0.5% vs 0.5%), and miscellaneous goods and services (5.8% vs 5.7%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.3% in September, rebounding from a 1.8% drop in August.
