Norway Jobseekers Highest Since 2022

The number of people registered as out of work in Norway rose to a seasonally adjusted 64.4 thousand in September 2025 from a revised 64.3 thousand in the previous month. This marks the highest since January 2022 and equal to 2.1% of the workforce. Unemployment increased across most occupational groups, with the highest rate in tourism and transportation (2.9% of the workforce) and the lowest among academic professions (0.9%). Regionally, Oslo and Østfold posted the highest jobless rates at 2.8%, while Troms recorded the lowest at 1.2%. Still, labor demand remained solid, with 43,300 vacancies advertised in September, equivalent to 1,800 per working day and 11% lower than a year earlier, mainly in health, nursing & care, retail & sales, and service occupations and other work. On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the number of fully unemployed people fell to 62.0 thousand in September from 64.7 thousand in August.
