The Australian sharemarket dipped in early trading, weighed down by a fall in retail and IT stocks that tracked a weaker session in New York. Investors also took profits from gold miners as the price of bullion crept higher.
The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 Index fell 11.7 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 8945.1 as of 10.18am AEDT on Wednesday, with seven out of the 11 sectors in the red.
