China Shares Close Week With Gains Over Trade Talk Hopes

(MT Newswires) -- The Chinese equities markets rallied for a second day as sentiment remained upbeat over the upcoming talks with the U.S. in Malaysia.
The Shanghai Composite Index, added 0.7%, or 27.90 points, to finish the trading week at 3,950.31. The Shenzhen Component Index jumped 2%, or 263.74 points, to 13,289.19.
Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng will meet with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit this weekend to discuss the tariffs and China's rare earth export curbs.
There are hopes that the meeting will deescalate trade tensions, paving the way for the scheduled talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea next week.
In corporate news, a number of companies made gains after releasing third-quarter earnings results.
Guangdong Hongdajumped 4.8% despite its third-quarter attributable net profit dropping 37% year on year to 149.5 million yuan from 237.0 million yuan.
Hubei Feilihua Quartz Glassrose 4.1% after its third-quarter attributable net profit climbed 80% from a year earlier to 112.0 million yuan.
