Tokyo, Oct 27, 2025 (AFP)
Japan's Nikkei 225 index of shares rose above 50,000 points for the first time on Monday, boosted by hopes of a US-China trade deal and Wall Street hitting new record highs.
US President Donald Trump and China's Xi Jinping are due to meet in South Korea this week, with top negotiators appearing to make progress towards a trade deal at talks in Malaysia.
The Nikkei was at 50,098.02, up 798.37 points or 1.62 percent in early trade. The index has gained around 25 percent so far this year.
