31st October 2025 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong's equity markets commenced trading on Thursday with modest losses across its major indices. The benchmark Hang Seng Index opened 19 points lower, representing a decline of 0.07% to settle at 26,263 points.
The Hang Seng Tech Index experienced a more pronounced decrease, falling 0.64% or 39 points to 6,012 points. Meanwhile, the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index dropped 33 points, equivalent to a 0.35% decline, opening at 9,313 points.
Trading activity revealed a divided performance within the technology sector. Tencent Holdings registered a slight increase of 0.1%, while Meituan advanced 0.2%. Conversely, Alibaba Group declined 1.3%, with Xiaomi Corporation and JD.com falling 1.2% and 0.7% respectively. Kuaishou Technology also recorded a decrease of 0.6%.
The financial sector presented a mixed picture during morning trading. HSBC Holdings climbed 0.6%, while AIA Group saw a notable increase of 3.9% following its earnings release. Ping An Insurance Group edged up 0.2%, though Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing limited experienced a slight dip of 0.3%. BYD Company emerged as one of the session's notable decliners, with its shares falling 3.5% in post-earnings trading. The overall market sentiment remained cautious as investors assessed corporate results and broader economic indicators.
