Kyiv discusses next steps with European partners after US plan

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said he had discussed a proposed US plan to end the war in Ukraine with European counterparts and outlined the next steps, during a joint telephone call.
Sybiha said on X that the call with the foreign ministers of France, Britain, Poland, Finland, the EU's foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, as well as representatives of Italy and Germany, had been "timely and meaningful".
He said he had shared the results of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's "recent contacts and outlined the logic of our further steps".
"We discussed in detail the elements of peace proposals presented by the United States and our joint work to pave a doable path to a just peace," he added.
Zelensky on Friday pushed back against Washington's 28-point plan, which would force Ukraine to give up land, cut its army and pledge never to join
NATO
.
The Ukrainian foreign minister also said he had stressed the importance of continued transatlantic pressure to force Russia to end the war.
He said he had thanked Ukraine's partners "for their willingness to increase support for Ukraine during this decisive time".
British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said on X that the talks had reaffirmed support for "a just, lasting peace" in Ukraine.
"We must secure a full ceasefire and space for meaningful negotiations. Ukraine must determine its future," she wrote.
"Will work with Ukraine, US and EU for peace."
US President Donald Trump has set a deadline of November 27 -- the Thanksgiving holiday -- for Ukraine to accept his administration's plan, which is seen in Kyiv as very favourable to the Kremlin.
