(MT Newswires) -- Chinese shares rebounded on Monday amid a resurgence in prospects of a rate cut by the U.S. Federal Reserve in December.
The Shanghai Composite Index, the main gauge of Chinese stocks, inched up 1.87 points to 3,836.77. The Shenzhen Component Index climbed 0.4% to 12,585.08.
Comments by New York Fed President John Williams that interest rates could fall without putting the Fed's inflation goal at risk boosted the likelihood of a rate cut. Traders priced an over 67% chance for a cut of 25 basis points in December, up from the nearly 40% chance the week prior, Investing.com reported.
Meanwhile, China's foreign investments between January and October dropped 10% year on year to 621.9 billion yuan despite a 15% increase in the number of new foreign-investment enterprises.
In company news, HLA Group applied to list H shares on the Hong Kong bourse. Shares of the apparel retailer were down 3% Monday.
