2nd January 2026 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong equities started 2026 on a firm footing. The Hang Seng Index opened 86 points, or 0.33%, higher at 25,717. The China Enterprises Index rose 36 points, or 0.4%, to 8,949, while the Tech Index advanced 31 points, or 0.57%, to 5,547.
Performance among major technology counters was uneven: Tencent up 0.2%; Alibaba up 0.2%; Meituan unchanged; Xiaomi up 0.2%; JD.com up 0.6%; Kuaishou down 0.1%.
Financials also saw divergent moves: HSBC down 0.4%; AIA up 2%; Ping An up 0.4%; Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing up 0.3%.9:47 AM
