Nissan Motor is down 3.1% and Nidec Corp. is 2.8% lower. The dollar is at 159.49 yen, compared with Y159.40 as of Friday's Tokyo stock market close.
Investors are closely watching developments in Iran and any Japanese government responses to the conflict.
The Nikkei Stock Average is down 0.1% at 53762.40.
