In order to rise to the highs in life & trading, we must learn how to overcome our lows, particularly during times of grief.
Brief intro session on the "Grief cycle" (based on the Kubler-Ross model), to our class of aspiring traders, on what is becoming a real pain-point for many, during traditional bouts of equity drawdown.
However, according to my performance coaching work with live case-study traders, many are impacted by the environmental grief of the ongoing pandemic and lockdown related disruption.
One of the hardest challenges is breaking through stage 1 & 2 of the cycle; shock & denial, which often creates a deep cognitive dissonance mental block, or alternate realities.
It's critical to work through the stages; frustration-anger, into the cycle bottom of your mood & energy. This is literally the darkest moment, before a new breaking dawn, which can lead to a post-traumatic growth recovery (PTG).
But to make it to the other side, we must first be in a state of "acceptance" of our past experiences, to help learn key lessons that can helps us fail forward and reintegrate into a new future.
